About Breastfeeding and Breast Pumps

Nothing can adequately prepare you for motherhood. As much as it is the greatest  experience in life, it comes with a lot of learning. Breastfeeding is at the core of being a mother and it is a rewarding journey full of learning and sometimes  confusion.

It is actually a weird thing, but we live in a time when people frown at the idea of  breastfeeding. Nature makes no mistakes and it is a known fact that breast milk is the best food for a baby and no matter how many products are created, they  will never come close to what breast milk can give a child. The very act of nursing offers great health benefits to the new mom that she cannot get elsewhere.

If you want to exclusive nurse your child for the first six month  and continue to do so even as they wean, you will probably need to invest in a breast pump. By expressing your milk, your child can enjoy it whether you are  around on not and going back to work can be a lot easier for both the mother and the child. The next big thing then is to find the right pump for the job.

If you want a pump for occasional use any pump can get the job done but for those who will need a breast pump that they can use multiple times a day, take  your time and do your research.  Avent has a number of trusted breast pumps that can work. Another great brand that you can consider is a Medela breast pump.  If you have these brands in your market, you have nothing to worry about. If not, you may need to make an order and do so in good time.

Breast pumps do break down and for this reason; you should consider the issue of getting spare parts seriously. Medela breast pumps do have spares parts being sold  separately and this is a great added advantage to lengthen the life of your pump. You can replace a lot of things including the motor which does wear off after  prolonged use.

Do I buy an electric pump or a manual pump? This is a very common question  whose answer depends on the frequency of use. Go electric for multiple use a day and manual for occasional use. Of course your budget will also play a major  role in this decision as well as being able to access a power point when you need to sue the pump. You may be working out in the field and you cannot always  access power. Consider these factors before making your final decision.

Babies come with a lot of costs and it is important to look into ways of making savings. Select a cost effective pump instead of an expensive one as long it gets  the job done. Do your research in advance and avoid asking for advice in a baby shop. You may be encouraged to buy an expensive product that does not work.

If you want to be a healthy and  to raise a healthy child, you must give breastfeeding a fair chance. It is God’s gift to a woman and the greatest gift to a baby.
